Alopecia in FY 2023 Appropriations Bill

The Appropriations Committee recently approved Congresswoman Pressley’s request to include Alopecia language in the Fiscal Year 2023 House Appropriations Bill. The Congresswoman’s request had been sent on April 27th, 2022, and contained 15 signatures.

This language specially addresses the ongoing federal research on Alopecia at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the disproportionate impact Alopecia has on the Black community and the toll on mental health caused by Alopecia. In her letter, Congresswoman Pressley calls upon other Institutes at the NIH, such as the National Institute on Minority Health, to contribute more significantly to Alopecia research.

This approval follows Congresswoman Pressley’s amendment concerning the increasing suicide rates among children with chronic illnesses. This inclusion of language marks another stride towards greater Alopecia awareness and passing H.R. 5430. Look below to read the request.
