Celebrating Black Hair History

Happy Black History Month! The AJL would like to spotlight Hulu's The Hair Tales, "a dynamic celebration of Black women's identity, beauty, culture and humanity." The Hair Tales follows inspiring Black women, including Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, on their hair journeys. Consisting of six episodes, it explores the expression of individuality through their hair, thus dispelling that hair is a surface-level matter. Further, the show traces the significance of hair for Black women throughout history, considering how hair has been used as means of empowerment and discrimination. For many, especially Black women, hair is integral to identity. Efforts such as this show are truly exciting for the hair community. Make sure to tune in to the first episode featuring @oprah!
